Steve Johnson wants to help athletes of all ages perform at their best. Many times, there are situations or obstacles that can occur which negatively affect that performance. Those setbacks can rob an athlete of his or her ability to achieve established goals. Figuring out the right way to recover and get back to what is loved is important. In this program, Steve walks through situations with athletes to help them have a comprehensive plan for Recovery, Restoration, and Resiliency.
- The three pillars references your: Heart, Mind, and Body
- To enable you to: Guard Your Passion, Strengthen Your Mind, and Care for Your Body
Steve is uniquely qualified to provide this program. He has over 20 years of experience in the mental health field working with athletes at all levels: youth, junior high, JV, varsity, college, and adult athletes. People in sports ranging from tennis, lacrosse, football, baseball, hockey, track and field, cross country, and yes – basketball – have all worked with Steve to improve their ability to overcome a situation that occurred in their lives.
In addition to his professional background, he has his own experience of 12 years as a successful basketball player (All Conference at a NCAA Division 3 college, 1000-point scorer, MVP, and an offer to play/coach overseas). Plus, he has 18 years’ experience coaching basketball at various levels (youth, junior high, high school, and AAU – and he even was a licensed basketball official for two years).
The combination of his experience in the area of mental health as well as his experience in the area of athletics, allows for an essential pathway of support for athletes. So, no matter your age, your sport, and your struggle, Three Pillars Training can help you:
- Respond to Adversity, Restore your Functioning, and Recover your Abilities
In addition, the Pearl Street Gym (PSG) is uniquely able to provide the environment for the program to serve athletes. A large workout area is utilized to allow for a comfortable meeting space and room for the athlete to perform the skills that he or she participates in. Athletes are encouraged to bring the equipment that they use in their sport to meetings. This allows athletes to be using their equipment while they talk to Steve. This type of performance activity while addressing problems allows for immediate application of what has been encouraged and discussed.
During an initial meeting with Steve, the following details will be covered:
- Identify the right plan – 3 months (recovery from a present issue), 6 months (short term support), and 12 months (preparing for more success).
- Each meeting is 45-60 minutes which starts with a debriefing of past performance(s), transitions to active use of the gym space, and then concludes with short-term goal setting until the next meeting.
- An additional option is a consult with the Certified Athletic Trainer that works at PSG, Bill Koepke, ATC.
- Meetings can range from weekly to monthly in frequency. The time between meetings will be determined along the way in collaboration together.
- Each meeting is $99 and could decrease in cost depending upon the length of plan chosen (there are percentage discounts for longer terms as per PSG policies).
- Remember that any age or stage of athlete can access this service (youth sports up through adult)
